There are several good, free products available that will help to protect your system from Spyware. These applications offer "real-time" scanning so as to protect your system while you are browsing, monitoring for threats in the background.
I use more than one application for this purpose, and I do use the two that are listed below. Certainly, either one is far better than none; but I use them both.
Install one or both; keep them updated and running at all times.
Spybot Search And Destroy is a full-featured application that I have used for several years now. Honestly, I preferred the earlier versions of the product; but that's just me. We certainly can't complain about the price...
